• Lucas assigned tasks to each alpha after briefly informing them which areas had the heaviest security and which safe routes they could use to enter the house unseen. Lucas also told them that he couldn’t guarantee all of their safety, and that today’s battle would be a bloody one, perhaps the most brutal fight they had ever faced, because his father’s pack members were not ordinary werewolves. They had been personally chosen by John through a vicious process of selection and training.
• “We are prepared to die avenging our pack members who became John’s victims,” one of the alphas said after Lucas finished speaking. “You don’t need to worry about us. Just save your wife and son.”
• Lucas nodded. For the first time since losing his mother and Merlia, his heart was moved by the kindness of others. He held out his hand, and the alpha shook it firmly. “May the Moon Goddess protect us.”
