• “He thinks he can stop us by kicking us out of Servaxia?” Berlina pulled off her sunglasses and glared out the airplane window, watching the flicker of city lights below. This would be the last time she saw Servaxia, since the immigration officers had just issued an entry ban against her and Tatiana. They could never set foot in Servaxia again.
• “Didn’t Isaac already say Lucas would take this step, Mom? And he even promised to protect us as long as we follow his orders,” said Tatiana, sitting beside Berlina. “I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.”
• “I’m not worried.” Berlina shot her daughter a sidelong look. “I’m just annoyed, you know? That ungrateful girl managed to marry an influential man, someone who can easily kick us out of the country.” Then she nudged Tatiana’s ribs. “You, be a little useful with that pretty face of yours!”
