• At first, Fisco only circled the living room and dining room, and Lucas briefly thought the dog was just messing with him. He didn’t really know where the keyhole was. But then Fisco walked toward the spiral staircase and went back up to Eve’s attic room. Lucas opened the door for him, and Fisco went in first, then headed to the bed and scratched at the floor beneath it. After that, he sat and looked at Lucas.
• Lucas looked back at Fisco, noticing his long tongue hanging out, his panting breath, and his black eyes reflecting a bit of light.
• “Is it down there?” asked Lucas as he pointed under the bed.
