• Eve kept glancing at Lucas, still unable to believe he was really there. She wanted to slap her own cheek and ask Lucas to make sure he had actually said what she thought he said, but Eve felt that doing so would only irritate him, so she held back.
• With her pregnancy progressing, Eve tried even harder to avoid conflicts with anyone who could risk exhausting her mentally.
• The car took them to an upscale shopping district. Eve could tell from the luxurious row of stores and the people walking along the sidewalks, all dressed in outfits by famous designers.
