Chapter 49 Marr's Return

  • Nicholette felt faint at the revelation. Now even she needed a sip of the strange moving red liquid from that bottle, hoping that it would steady her thinking. The drink went down as expected: putting up a fight. It was thick and liquorous, and it was spicy and very alcoholic. It was horrible. And it sure wasn't enough to quell this news.
  • Even with a second dose, she couldn't visualize that her battled hardened master trainer had lost her baby, conceived from a werewolf. How could a Huntress carry a baby werewolf? Was it possible to even have werewolf children? I mean, those things are big! Wolf Amaranta's little boys looked more like calves and already had fangs and claws, how did they come out? What happened to Beatrice's baby? Was it a boy or a girl? Was it around town? Did the Council make it go away? Or did they kill it… him? Her? Nicholette fired all her questions at Alberta at the same time, but wouldn't get all of the answers she wanted. Alberta could only account for so much of the story.
  • “When Marr left we took our Beatrice and fled that place, leaving the three dead werewolves behind. Everybody was celebrating having defeated the monsters. We had three heads to show to the town. Not Bea. She didn't say a word. She didn't smile. She hardly breathed. Manu and Gabi flocked to her and examined her head to toe. She had the occasional bruise, scrapes and that bite mark on her shoulder Orkoy had so generously made. But she was fine. They needed to see if Manu's enlargement ointment had worked as well as she planned, but Beatrice didn't let anyone look down there. She just shrugged and walked with us back to town, in the rear, with the pack mules carrying our gear, as the other Huntresses boasted, danced and sang their victory. I think she must have known something was brewing inside of her.”
