Chapter 15 The Statement And The Trial

  • Soldiers do not disobey orders and Nicholette was very clearly told to stay home, under the orders of Captain Theobald, which she didn't. Lord Veritas had no trouble deciding what to do and to with his rebellious daughter, nor did he bother taking the matter to the council.
  • Nicholette, his darling firstborn daughter, still in her under armor, sat on the cold stone floor of the holding cell in the back of the courtroom. Lady Verona had just left, promising to confront Lord William or Beatrice or the Council and whoever she needed. Nicholette didn't worry about it. She knew Huntresses were rare special soldiers that were way too valuable in the city's defense to be kept tucked away in a moldy prison. Also she had much more interesting thoughts going through her head, like the tender and somewhat shy kiss she just had under the big tree overlooking the werewolf village. She wanted to go back and ask so many more questions... Rafe confessed he had loved before, but that didn't explain much. Who did love? A female werewolf, no doubt? Had he been married? Even if werewolves didn't marry for good? Did he ever love a human? Had he ever been interested in a human? Or would Nicholette be his first?
  • Nicholette felt she needed to speak to him again, and then she realized that she wasn't just curious about the social behavior of werewolves. She wanted to know more about Rafe, about his childhood, his first time, his discoveries, his friends, his family... Everything. She wanted to be near Rafe, looking into his gentle eyes and that obnoxious wry smile of his. The smile she managed to change into a decent and very real one.
