Chapter 22 The Huntress Resolve
- Nicholette hadn't fully recovered, but there was nothing that would keep her to bed in the first month she promised her mother she would. The enchantresses had made their best spells and the healer's potions worked wonders. The Huntress resolve in her heart did the rest. It all helped her ignore the doctor's orders and ignore the pain. There was still pain everywhere, but being stuck in bed was driving Nicholette crazy. It didn't help that while she stared at the ceiling her town sharpened swords, arrows and spears to kill werewolves. To kill Rafe.
- She remembered that Rafe was still unaware that the guard now knew how susceptible werewolves were to silver while in human form. Nicholette shouldn't have put them in such danger. But she remembered being cornered by her father and had to give him something to justify her incursion in their territory. If anything Nicholette understood how hard her father's negotiations with the council had been. And it looked like Raquel was going to follow his steps into politics. Pleasing everyone was hard. And dangerous.
- Nicholette had missed the opportunity to tell Rafe and his family to stay away from Erbe. It should have been the first thing she said, but when she buried her head in his warm welcoming chest and smelled his ochre and lavender scent, she lost sight of her mission and let the cozy feeling of belonging to invade her heart and mind. She would have been so happy to let the world burn while he held her, but real life had to rear in its ugly head, reminding her that there was a war going on.
