Chapter 44 Beatrice's Story

  • As the laughter died down, Alberta dragged a chair and started eating her meal with them. It didn't look as fancy as the one she served her guests, though the same duck, potato, kale and carrots were all there. The food, no matter how it looked, was delicious and the different tastes cascaded down Nicholette's palate as if they were telling her the story of how that duck was cooked. First she tasted the sweetness, and then the spice that came with it, enough to make her alert of every taste bud inside her mouth, but not enough to hurt. Second she tasted the bold textures that made her feel like that meal would keep her on her feet all day. The sweetness came back once again and finally a little acid tinged the whole experience, spiking Nicholette awake for the whole meal. Each byte repeated that enticing story in different ways. She could feel the love it went on orchestrating the meal.
