• The pungent scent of pine mixed with leather hung in the air and tickled my nose. I wrapped myself tighter in Ethan's oversized jacket and curled up in the backseat like a scared little bird seeking shelter. Outside, the darkness receded like a tide, but the warm yellow light inside the car couldn't chase away the chill in my bones.
