- I stood in the middle of the empty living room, Brown’s words still ringing in my ears: “Miss Aurora moved to the Casa Hotel in the Central District.”
- I had told him to let her go. That stubborn she-wolf couldn’t live without me. She loved me to her bones, and I knew that better than anyone. Yet when I stood here alone, facing the suffocating silence, staring at the corner of the couch where she used to curl up, the space now stripped of every trace of her life, a wildfire of rage ignited in my chest.
