Chapter 6
- There was a sudden loud cry for help, startling Lupa. ‘’Help me!’’
- Whoever it was sound close and hurt.
- ‘’Where are you?’’ Lupa asked.
- ‘’Help me!’’ the voice screamed, seeming to come from the trees above her.
- ‘’It is not safe out for someone like you.’’
- Lupa almost jumped out of her skin. ‘’Who is there?’’ she asked, looking around but it was too dark to see anything.
- ‘’Help!’’ the person yelled.
- ‘’Who are you?’’ Lupa asked again.
- ‘’Relax pup, I am not but an elderly man.’’ The man walked up to Lupa with a lantern held up so he could see her face.
- ‘’Help me, please!’’ the voice came again.
- ‘’We need to help that person, that sound to be in danger.’’
- The man laughed. ‘’Don’t you know that this forest isn’t a place for any lone traveler? And didn’t your pack leader tell you about the creatures that lurks in these mountains?’’
- ‘’You are here by yourself.’’
- The man tsked ‘’I am the protector of this forest.’’
- When the voice called for help again, it sounded closer this time.
- ‘’We need to go,’’ the old man told her.
- ‘’How do I know that you aren’t one of those creatures?’’
- ‘’You don’t, but I have no thirst for human’s blood or flesh unlike whatever is in the trees.’’
- Lupa looked up but saw nothing.
- ‘’Come along now, I am a bit too old to be fighting with a Skinwalker.’’
- When they got to the man’s house, which was more like a hut, Lupa gazed around. Wondering how anyone lived like that. The place was small, with just one bedroom and a bathroom. The kitchen and living room were in the same place, which was full of junk.
- She was used to her large three-stories home, even though only two people lived there, but it was much better than the dirty hut that was slowly making her claustrophobic.
- The man studied Lupa for a while. ‘’You have been severed from your wolf.’’
- ‘’What do you mean by that?’’
- ‘’I wonder, maybe because of a traumatic experience or could it be because your abilities are too great,’’ he said more to himself.
- ‘’What are you talking about?’’ Lupa asked, feeling slightly annoyed.
- The old man nodded. ‘’I see, you don’t have your wolf. It is quite odd for someone with your status.’’
- Lupa was about to ask him what he meant, but he changed the subject and asked if she was hungry.
- ‘’The stew just needs heating up, freshly killed deer meat. I hope you don’t mind.’’
- After eating, Lupa found herself nodding off and as the plate fell out of her hand, she couldn’t help but think that she had been tricked by the old man and would soon be killed.
- When she opened her eyes again, the bright rays of the sun were too much for her eyes, and so she closed them only to fall into a deep sleep.
- The second time waking up, Lupa decided that she needed to leave because clearly the old man had done something to her. But when she tried to stand, her legs were too weak to hold her body weight and she fell face first on the dirty floor.
- Lupa groaned while rolling to her back, thinking that this was how her life would end. All she wanted was to escape the burdens of being in a pack that didn’t want her, but while doing so she was met with her own demise.
- She struggled to her feet, then stumbled over to the front door and just as she was about to turn the knob, the old man pushed the door open, causing Lupa to fall hard on her ass.
- ‘’Good, you are finally awake.’’
- ‘’What did you do to me?’’ Lupa asked.
- ‘’Trying to help.’’
- Lupa held her head to kill the building headache. ‘’No, you did something to me. You are a killer, maybe just like those skin walkers.’’
- The old man laughed and walked by Lupa.
- Seeing this as her opportunity to escape, Lupa dashed through the front door but paused to look at her surroundings.
- She was in a small village with dilapidated houses, and huts. The people there didn’t seem to notice her and just went by their day, except one little girl who waved at Lupa and instead of waving back, Lupa hurried inside the hut she had just come out of.
- Lupa groaned and held her head as she leant on the closed door.
- ‘’Here, drink this tea. It will make you feel better.’’
- Lupa refused the tea, thinking that something might be wrong with it, and she would only fall sleep again.
- ‘’No, the tea is to help you. The stew was for me to see how disconnected you were from your wolf.
- ‘’How did you?’’
- ‘’I can read minds; see the future and I am also a healer.’’
- ‘’That’s incredible. I have never met a wolf with so many abilities before.’’
- The old man laughed. ‘’What makes you think I am a wolf?’’
- ‘’Well, I mean. You live here and – ‘’
- ‘’I am no wolf. Just think of me as a spiritual guide, and I can help you connect with your inner beast. I have done so for all the people that you see in this village. Help them connect with what was broken.’’
- Lupa stared into the mug of green colored tea, still skeptical about it.
- ‘’How will you even help me? I mean, I’m just a late bloomer.’’
- ‘’No child, there is no such thing in our world. Besides, a wolf of your caliber should have undergone the change long ago.’’
- ‘’What do you mean?’’
- ‘’Hmm, I see that you don’t know your heritage. Which means that the pack you are currently living in, isn’t your true pack.’’
- The man studied Lupa. ‘’I can help you, but please drink the tea so that you can feel better. It will take away the bad feeling and dizziness that you have.’’
- Lupa did so but then blanched. ‘’This is horrible.’’
- ‘’Anything good for you never taste nice, now drink up.’’
- ‘’Ok, done. What do you know about me and my rightful pack?’’
- Chuckling, the old man said. ‘’I guess I should give you the history first so you can understand. Yes, it will make this easier.’’
- Lupa brought her knees up to her chin, listening intently to the man speak.
- ‘’Have you ever heard the story of how the first werewolves came into being?’’
- Lupa nodded. ‘’Yes, my history teacher told us that Lycian was visited by a light and she told him that she will grant his every wish if he does her bid.’’
- The man shook his head.
- He got up to stroke the fire, it blazed up and burned a bright yellow color. The more Lupa stared at the fire, it was as if it was showing her an image, like a movie.
- ‘’They call him Lycian, but his right name is Lycaon, and he was a fearsome warrior. He was Zeus’s foot soldier, marching into wars at his command and could overcome any enemy. But he would always feel unappreciated, because Zeus would take all the glory for himself, and Lycian would always be forgotten.’’
- The fire blazed to red, while the man continued his story.
- ‘’The final straw for Lycaon was one day after coming back from war, he found his wife in bed with another man. That man turned out to be Zeus, this angered Lycaon and in his rage he told himself that he would get his revenge. So, one day after coming back from yet another war, he held a feast in Zeus’s honor. The god was pleased and accepted the invitation. it was after eating to his full that he learnt that the meat was the flesh of a boy that was killed by Lycaon. Zeus was furious, in his rage he turned Lycaon and his children into wolves.’’
- ‘’The moon goddess, Selene knew their potential and thought they could help her fight against anyone who tried to over throw her. So, she took pity on them. Making it so that they could change from wolves to humans as they pleased, but only if they agreed to serve only her. She also blessed them and their children, or anyone else who came from them with incredible abilities.’’
- ‘’I don’t see what this has to do with me, all wolves came from them. So, what’s so special about me?’’
- ‘’Will, Lupa. You are a direct descendant of Lycaon. He had fifty sons, but only one daughter; Callisto, and unlike her brothers’ wives, she was able to give birth to wolf children without the complications that lead to the demise of both mother and child.’’
- ‘’Envying their sister, the brothers would steal children from nearby and far away villages to give them the cursed bite. Of course, most of these children were too young, causing them to die. While most of who did change, wanted nothing to do with their forced fathers and would run away.’’
- ‘’These bitten humans would either find friendships or romantic relationships in others like them. They would soon mate and went on to having wolf children of their own, forming packs.’’
- Lupa simply blinked at him, not knowing what to say.
- ‘’You are an ancestor of Callisto, and one of the few wolves who were born directly from Lycaon’s bloodline.’’
- ‘’How do you even know this?’’ Lupa asked.
- ‘’That night in the forest, I sensed a great presence, and the moon goddess told me that I needed to help the lost pup. The first morning while you were still asleep, I saw how strikingly similar you looked to Callisto and knew that you are a rarity.’’
- Lupa shook her head. ‘’This is hard to believe.
- The man stood, his knees cracked, and he chuckled. ‘’I know it is too much to take in but believe my words. Your blue eyes and white hair is the giveaway, you are the only one to share this unique feature with Callisto.’’
- Lupa threw herself back into the old sofa. ‘’If I am truly from a great line of wolves, then why am I, an Omega?’’
- ‘’An Omega? You are far from such! Who told you this nonsense?’’
- ‘’That’s what blue eyes mean,’’ Lupa’s lower lip trembled.
- ‘’No, your blue eyes are unique to where you originated from. I should also mention that Callisto could only bring forth females, and her daughters bore daughters, and so was the trend.’’
- Lupa looked down at her hands. ‘’But, why am I like this?’’
- ‘’Often times it is because wolves has too great of an ability, and would only manifest when the body, mind, and soul is mature enough. Otherwise, the wolf could either lose control and go rogue, or even die.’’
- ‘’How are you going to help me?’’
- ‘’That’s why I gave you the stew, it helped me to see how greatly disconnected you were from your wolf. Most people would be asleep for a day or two. But as for you, three weeks. I have never seen anything like that before.’’
- Lupa’s eyes opened wide. ‘’Three weeks, my mother must be worried about me.’’
- ‘’Hm, if you cared about her, you wouldn’t have run away in the first place.’’
- ‘’What do I need to do?’’ Lupa asked.
- ‘’Connect with yourself.’’
- ‘’How?’’
- ‘’You know yourself better than anyone else, but first you must open your chakras. The tea I gave you should help you relax, making it easier to do so.’’
- ‘’And that’s it?’’
- ‘’No, let’s focus on that first.’’
- Lupa nodded, wanting nothing more than to be a wolf and gain her ability.
