Chapter 3

• ‘’Ok pups. Please pay attention, because today we will be learning about our heritage.’’ Mrs. Gen pulled down a screen so it could cover the white board.
• ‘’The topic will be about lycanthropy and how wolves came into being.’’
• A student raised their hand. ‘’My father said that no one knows how wolves came into existence.’’
• ‘’Well, Valka. Your father told you wrong, there is a complete history of how us wolves – ‘’
• Mrs. Gen slapped the desk. ‘’Lupa, wake up!’’
• Everyone turned their heads to look at her, and only a few laughed. ‘’Someone like you should be paying the most attention in this class.’’
• Lupa slowly lifted her head. ‘’Someone like me?’’
• ‘’Just pay attention!’’ the teacher barked.
• The lesson began with the classroom getting dark, and a film beginning to play on the screen.
• ‘Long ago, a deadly plague threatened the land. Back then, humans were very backwards and did not know much. So, instead of burying their dead, they would just discard of the bodies in close by lands without think of the consequences.’
• ‘Soon, the plague, one which was much worse than the black death began to spread. But because of a high number of illiteracies, no one thought of making documentation of this.’
• Lupa struggled to keep her eyes open, but Mrs. Gen was watching her closely, because she did not want to get yelled at again, Lupa got up and stretched. That made the teacher smile, and she turned back to the clip.
• ‘There were two young men who were desperate to live through this, but we will only focus on the one who went by Lycian. Being fearful, he ran away in hopes of finding a land where there were no plagues but as it seemed, it was everywhere.’
• ‘Then one day, he heard a man who at first he thought was mad and talking to himself, but then a horrible voice replied and granted him all he wished for.’
• ‘He ran out of his hiding place, wanting to make a wish to stay alive as well. But they were already gone, leaving Lycian to wonder if he had imagined everything out of desperation.
• One night, as Lycian lay in the cave floor, a glowing light approached. The light said it was a female and wanted Lycian’s help to stop a darkness that had recently been created.’
• ‘I will grant you anything you wish for, if you do my bid. Hearing this, Lycian agreed and made his wish, but unbeknown to him, the light silently cursed him.’
• ‘I want to be as strong as a hundred men, and with that the light granted it but made it so that a flower would be his greatest weakness.’
• ‘Is that it? The light had asked.’
• ‘I do not remember what else the other man said, so yes. Oh, I wish to find my beloved so we can spend the rest of our lives together. The light granted that but made it so that if he or she should ever take on another, the one to dwell the betrayal would be stricken down and driven mad.’
• ‘A bit disappointed after seeing that he had nothing else to ask for, the light gave the man a few other abilities. To be able to run fast, never get ill and to age slowly but she also cursed him. Since she was also the moon, she made it so that he would change into a wolf beast but only during the full moon.’
• But wherever Mrs. Gen got the film from, did not seem to be a reliable source because a man in thick glasses came before the camera and began talking about something else off topic. A few students snickered and Mrs. Gen struggled to get back to the video.
• ‘’Ok.’’ She clapped. ‘’Class dismissed.’’
• Lupa told herself that she would ask her mother the true story of how werewolves began to walk the earth, because Ulva knew so much more than all the teachers she had.
• ‘’Lupa,’’ Mrs. Gen called, stopping her.
• ‘’Mrs. Gen.’’
• ‘’I am sorry for what I said, but it is because I see you having so much potential. You might not have your wolf now, but I know that you will and will be a great one too.’’
• Someone scoffed. ‘’As if.’’
• Not wanting to stick around, Lupa hurried from the class room but was bumped into.
• ‘’Watch it, wolf less!’’ the mocking voice of Catori came.
• Lupa ignored the other girl and her friends as she bent to pick up her books, when done and trying to stand up, she received a kick in the back.
• Everyone laughed.
• ‘’Poor little thing, can’t even defend yourself, huh? Well, too bad. Maybe if you lost some of that weight… no, you still wouldn’t be any match to me. I am simply better than you.’’
• Catori kicked Lupa in the back again, causing her to cry out.
• ‘’So weak and pathetic.’’
• ''All right, all right. Break it up!'' a teacher yelled.
• The females hovered over Lupa a bit longer before turning away, one spat on the ground as a form of insult and they laughed.
• "Are you all right, Lupa?" Mr. Jons asked, helping her to her feet.
• ‘’I am fine, thanks for asking.’’
• ‘’You do not seem fine to me. None if this behaviour from those girls is ok, I will get the principal to speak with their parents.’’
• ‘’No, my mother spoke with the Alpha about them.’’
• Mr. Jons sighed. ‘’Why were they picking on you?’’
• ‘’It is because I am not a wolf.’’
• “Listen, my ability might be able to help speed up the process so you can get your wolf.’’
• ‘’No, I will just wait and see what happens.’’
• ‘’Ok, just get home safe.’’
• Lupa tried to do just that, but she was not so lucky because as she followed the path home, Catori was the first to step out before her.
• ‘’Well, if I am not the lucky one.’’ She laughed. Mika and Astray stepped out as well, the two had nasty smiles on their faces as they flanked Catori.
• ‘’Since you want to run your mouth to the teacher, we should take your tongue out, see if you will be able to do it again.’’
• Lupa did the only thing she could think off, she turned and ran.
• The three girls laughed, giving chase, while teasing and taunting Lupa as she went.
• ‘’Come back here, wolf less!’’ Mika called.
• ‘’No, let her run, I am sure she never worked out a day in her life. We are doing her a favor, helping her new exercise regime.’’ Astray mocked.
• ‘’That’s assuming she can even lose the weight,’’ Catori said, and they laughed.
• Lupa dared to look back, only to stumble but she quickly regained herself and began running again but bumped into the Alpha.
• Alpha Kali took notice of the tears streaming down her face, and even caught the scent of her blood. ‘’What are you doing out here?’’
• ‘’Being chased by those girls again, you know the ones who always bully me?’’
• Alpha Kali growled. ‘’Well, maybe if you were not such a fat and useless individual none of this would be happening.’’
• Lupa could not believe the words coming out of the Alpha’s mouth.
• After seeing the Alpha talking with Lupa, Catori and her friends walked by as if nothing had happened. Catori turned around to throw a dirty look over her shoulder at Lupa, and even mouthed a few words to her.
• Waiting until the other girls were out of ear shot, the Alpha spoke again.
• ‘’Last night when I was at your house, I sensed it. My wolf recognized you as his mate, but I can never accept you as such. It is not the fact that you have no wolf, clearly you do but it just is not ready to manifest yet. My reason is because you are fat and an Omega; someone as weak and ugly as you cannot rule by my side.’’
• Lupa was frozen in place, she knew that this would happen but didn’t expect the words to hurt so much. ‘’You are the Alpha; you should be setting the example and not reject your mate.’’
• ‘’I am the Alpha and would rather to suffer than to have you as my mate.’’ Alpha Kali growled.
• There was a pause, and before Alpha Kali could say the lines to reject Lupa, she turned and ran. Of course, Lupa could not escape him, she lived in his pack after all, so nothing stopped him from entering her house.
• This time, her mother was not there to protect her, and so he delivered the rejection.
• ‘’I Alpha Kali Crow, Alpha of the Night Walker pack, reject you, Lupa Tree as my mate and Luna.’’
• Lupa shook her head, seeing that she was not willing to accept his rejection, Alpha Kali growled out and grabbed her upper arm.
• ‘’I do not want you, just accept the rejection so that both of us can find someone else.’’
• With tears running down her face, Lupa nodded. ‘’I accept your rejection.’’
• ‘’That is not how it is done, you know this.’’
• ‘’I am not going to accept your rejection.’’
• Alpha Kali roared out while grabbing Lupa by the throat. ‘’You little ugly bitch!’’
• ‘’Get your hands off my daughter!’’ Ulva yelled. ‘’I do not know what is going on here, but you have no right to hurt her in any way. Besides, I do not see you treating anyone in this pack with such manner.’’
• Alpha Kali let go of Lupa and she dropped to the ground breathing hard.
