Chapter 2
- Lupa rushed inside her house, her eyes were wide from fear and her mother peeked around the corner at her.
- ‘’Are you all right child?’’
- ‘’No, I am being picked on, again! I am not a wolf, so I am always and forever the target for their torment.’’
- ‘’Come out wolfless girl!’’
- ‘’Yeah, fatso. Come out so we can play pin the tail on the fat wolfless pig.’’
- Something hit against the window and Lupa saw that it was an egg.
- Ulva opened the front door and let out a loud roar, the high school kids who had eggs aimed and ready to throw ran away.
- ‘’I am sorry you must go through all this,’’ Ulva said.
- ‘’Right, it is all because you have me in this stupid place with a bunch of wolf people. Clearly I am not like them, I do not get why I must be here.’’
- ‘’Because you are from a great line of wolves.’’
- Lupa groaned. ‘’You keep saying that but look at me. The freak of the pack, no wolf and fat.’’
- Lupa dropped her bag and began to cry, ever since starting high school, the bullying got worse. She was picked on because she didn’t have her wolf or ability yet, they also made fun of her weight, and the red pimples on her face. Others her age even went as far as mocking her for having almost white hair and blue eyes.
- Yes, blue eyes. Normally wolves had red, orange, yellow, or green eyes, but not Lupa and so she suffered greatly for her ‘flaws.’
- All the things that made her unique also made her a target of insults.
- ‘’Darling, you are just a late bloomer. Why don’t you get freshened up and then come down for dinner? I made your favorite.’’
- ‘’A late bloomer? Clearly there is something wrong with me, I mean, just look at me.’’
- Ulva touched Lupa’s cheek and smiled. ‘’There is nothing wrong with you, all I see is a beautiful teenage girl.’’
- ‘’Sure, you have to say things like that because you are my mother.’’
- ‘’Honey don’t let them get to you. I am sure that in a few months’ time, when you turn eighteen you will get your wolf and have your ability.’’
- ‘’Yeah, but I will still be fat.’’
- Ulva sighed, not knowing what to do or say to make Lupa feel better.
- ‘’Just go put your bag down and come back for dinner.’’
- Lupa grumbled as she made her way up to her room, telling herself that she was not a wolf and will never be. She was the most hated person in the pack as well, because she just couldn’t seem to do anything right. It was constant mistake, after mistake for Lupa, it was starting to take a toll on her even though she tried to hide it so that her mother didn’t worry about her too much.
- After her shower, Lupa suddenly gasped and held her chest. Her heart was beating so fast, she was afraid it might pound out of her chest, she also had butterflies in her stomach, and after taking a deep breath to try and regain composure, she was hit with the scent of something that drove her senses wild. It was a sweet smell, like warm honey, mixed with a woodsy smell.
- ‘’Honey and pine cones, with resin,’’ Lupa said to herself.
- The butterflies in her stomach went crazy as she thought of the delectable smell, then she remembered how others described getting the first scent of their mate.
- ‘’A mate? So, I am a wolf?’’ Lupa looked down at her hands, thinking that she would now be like everyone else, she then looked in the mirror. Turning this way and that, but she looked the same. ‘’So much for that,’’ she said to herself then got dressed and went downstairs.
- The closer she got to the dining room, the more she realized that the scent of her mate was getting stronger, which meant they were in her house.
- Holding her breath, Lupa took a brave step and fully entered the dining room, only to see the Alpha. He looked up at her with a blank expression which soon turned to a frown as he studied her, now making Lupa regret wearing her unicorn pajamas, and fluffy slippers.
- ‘’There you are, Alpha Kali well be joining us for dinner. I had informed him about what happened today, and I must say that it is a daily occurrence.’’
- Lupa doubted he heard a thing her mother just said, because the entire time he had his red eyes running up and down her body, making her self-conscious.
- On the other hand, Lupa tried to avoid his gaze, but his presence was just too much, and she could not help but stare at him.
- Alpha Kali shook his head. ‘’The gods must me crazy.’’
- Lupa knew exactly what he meant, he did not want the fat, wolfless female to be his mate, no one did.
- Ulva came back into the dining room with a sizzling dish.
- ‘’Dinner is ready, roast duck and dumplings.’’
- During the meal, Lupa tried to focus on her food but for whatever reason, her hand kept shaking and the Alpha would make grunting noises as if to intimidate her.
- ‘’I want something to be done. I do not appreciate the other kids bullying my child, we all know that Lupa is a little bit behind when it comes to the transformation process, but the bullying and mockery is just uncalled for. It can happen to anybody, so please if you can speak with them and their parents I would love that.’’
- ‘’Sure, if I can get the names then I will talk to the parents.’’
- All eyes turned to Lupa; she wiggled in her seat as she stared back at her mother. Truth be told, she wasn’t paying any attention to the conversation. All in her mind was ways to accept the Alpha’s rejection.
- ‘’What?’’ Lupa asked.
- Ulva frowned. ‘’The names of those bothering you, go on. The Alpha is waiting.’’
- ‘’Oh, uh.’’ Lupa paused. ‘’Astray, Mika, Ella, and Catori.’’
- ‘’Catori?’’ the Alpha asked, his brow frowning. ‘’I do not believe that Catori is like that. I have had multiple conversations with her, and never did she seem disrespectful.’’
- Lupa sat back in her seat, thinking to herself. ‘Of course, the Alpha did not believe me. Catori was one of the most desirable females in the pack, even Alpha Kali wanted her, so it makes sense that he doesn’t see miss perfect as a trouble maker.’
- The only reason why most single males, or males who had rejected their mates weren’t so after her was because of her age. But Lupa was sure that as soon as Catori turned eighteen, all the men would be running after her.
- ‘’She and her friends bully me every day, reminding me of my defect with every chance they get. Catori is the ring leader, coaxing others to mock me, and when they do not, she turns on them.’’
- Alpha Kali folded his muscular arms across his chest, causing them to bulge more and Lupa had to look away. ‘’Ok, I will make sure to have a word with them.’’
- Ulva nodded. ‘’Please do because I really do not appreciate them making fun of my child.’’
- Right after dinner, the Alpha left, but not before looking back at Lupa with a shake of his head.
- She was waiting for the rejection, but he just left without another word.
- ‘’Well, I hope the Alpha talks to those girls. This is getting ridiculous.’’
- But Lupa knew he wouldn’t.
- ‘’I am going for a walk,’’ Lupa said, then left out the back door before her mother could say anything.
- Going to her favorite spot, Lupa sat down on the edge of the cliff which over looked the ocean. She loved watching the sunset, and this was the only place that she could get a full view of such. She also loved watching the whales going by, making up stories that it were the male whales that went out to work and were now just going back home.
- She often wondered if the whales were like them, able to transform into humans or if they were nothing more than just animals.
- ‘’Oh, to be free, roaming the open ocean whenever you want without any rules to confine you,’’ Lupa said aloud.
- ‘’Whales travels in pack as well, but it’s called pod,’’ a voice said from behind.
- Lupa jumped, she would have fallen over the edge if not for the roots from a tree that she had her feet on.
- She turned around to see Dolph, another ‘reject’ of the pack. But he was a nice kid, being extremely helpful and easy to talk to once you got to know him. But, as they say, nice guys finish last, and with him being so helpful only caused him to be taken advantage of.
- ‘’Hey,’’ Lupa said.
- ‘’I did not know anyone else came here,’’ he replied, taking a seat beside Lupa.
- ‘’I do, well. Sometimes.’’
- The two sat there in silence as they watched the sun sunk behind the horizon.
- Dolph turned to look at Lupa. ‘’I should go, my father did not know I left the house, and I do not want him to worry about me again.’’
- ‘’Yeah, I should as well. I do not want to be out here too late.’’
- That night Lupa had a fitful sleep, she kept dreaming of a large silver wolf chasing her. The wolf did not seem hostile, but at the same time it brought back memories of the Beta chasing her just for the kick of it and getting the others to mock her even more.
- Waking up in cold sweat, Lupa simply rolled to her side and with her phone in hand, she began to play a few games, hoping for sleep to come again soon.
