Chapter 88

  • The two women held each other’s gaze, their minds reeling in confusion. When Sophia described Laura, Amber didn’t expect to see Avery Knight. And when Laura told Avery that Sophia Hamilton had found her daughter, she didn’t expect another Hamilton.
  • The silence between them lingered, heavy and suffocating, until Avery finally broke it, her voice faltering. “W-Would you like to have a seat, Amber?” She gestured shakily to the small table between them.
  • Amber nodded, lowering herself into the chair across from Avery, but for the first time, she couldn’t meet her gaze. Her mind raced, thoughts colliding like a storm. She was confused, disoriented. Avery wasn’t, though. Her eyes brimmed with awe, fixed on her as though she were the answer to a prayer—she now finally understood why she felt so much connection with Amber and why her father had seen a resemblance.
