Chapter 16

• Amber sat outside the doctor's office, flipping through old videos on her phone. She had been waiting for what felt like an eternity for her first ultrasound. As she watched the clips from the meet and greet before the scandal ruined her career, tears began form around the corner of her eyes, she tried to brush them away but they formed even harder. In one day, she had gone from “loved by everyone” to the “most hated actress”, her anti-fan base increasing by the day.
• Across the room, a man wearing a face mask sat quietly, his eyes fixed on her, but Amber didn't notice until he got up and walked over and sat next to her.Without a word, he took her hand and gave it a tight squeeze.
• Amber was taken startled, but she didn't pull away, she kept staring at those familiar eyes until he took off his mask, revealing Xavier's face. Their eyes locked and for a moment, the awkwardness and distance between them melted. Xavier's gaze was empathetic while Amber's tears continued to fall, but these where happy tears, she couldn't believe he was here; right when she needed comfort. She sat there, hoping the moment would linger on for a while, but then the sweet tension was broken by a woman calling the name that was all foreign to her.
