Chapter 39
- Amber and Sophia sat across from each other in a quiet corner of a restaurant, their animosity palpable. Their eyes locked in a silent standoff until Sophia cut through the tension. She raised an eyebrow, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Well, well, well. Look what we have here. The prodigal step-sister returns.” She paused, her gaze lingering on Amber’s face before adding, “Wherever you were, it looks good on you…That doesn’t mean we’re friends now.” She added with a pinch of condescension.
- Amber’s expression relaxed, a small smile playing on her lips. “Thanks, you look pretty good yourself.” She told her, but deep down, she knew it was a lie. Sophia had lost a few pounds and although, the makeup she wore did a great job with covering up the bags under her eyelids, it couldn’t hide the exhaustion written all over her face.
- Sophia snorted. “You really don’t have a clear vision, do you?” She spat, “Well cut to the chase, Amber. I’m a busy person, why did you call me out here?” She demanded.
