- Sophia sat at the dinning table, set with fine china and crystal glasses, illuminated by the soft glow of the chandelier above and surrounded by members of the Hamilton and Astor family.
- It was a few days to their wedding and Williams Astor had invited her, her parents and grandparents over for a small dinner party. The group chatted and laughed, sipping and enjoying their wine while Sophia sat next to Pierce with a bored look on her face. Her gaze swept around the table, her eyes lingering on each face.
- As she listened to her parents and grandfather’s conversation, her expression turned icy, her eyes flashing with disdain. Damn hypocrites. She thought. William was the first to notice her gaze.
