• The elders sat across from me like they’d been waiting years to say what they were about to say. Old eyes, sharp tongues with very little patience. Some had served under my father. Some had always questioned my leadership. And now they finally thought they had something to sink their teeth into. I leaned back in my chair, arms folded with my fists clenched tight by my side.
