• As soon as we stepped off the private jet and onto the tarmac, the cool New York air felt like a jolt back to reality. My eyes quickly scanned the area, landing on Nathan, Adrian’s longtime driver, who was already standing beside a sleek black car. His face remained impassive, but I could tell from the slight tension in his posture that he was surprised to see Adrian alive and well.
• I didn’t expect to see Nathan, I thought Adrian would have cut ties with everyone from his past life a least for the meantime. Someone else would have come for us, or better still we could have taken a cab to our destination.
