• I dialed her line and it rang out. The second time I dialed, the call didn’t even connect at all. I kept the phone on my desk, wondering if she was ignoring my calls intentionally.
• The phone buzzed on the table, vibrating across the glass surface as I sat staring at it. Matt’s name flashed on the screen, but I couldn’t pick it up. I was scared of the news he had for me. It had been days since Serena went missing, and I didn’t inform him that I sent her away until today.
