Chapter 4 Captivated
- Serena’s POV:
- For the rest of the day, after I returned from the hospital, I stayed home alone doing some chores.
- For some reason, I felt like I didn’t want to be a maid anymore. Maybe because I felt like a married woman whose status ought to have changed, or because the money in my account made me feel like a rich woman.
- I heard the honk of a car and rushed to the window to see who it was. The mighty Adrian Hayes was back.
- For a moment, I was excited. The thought of having someone at home with me after spending several hours alone made me quite happy.
- Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
- “I'm coming!” I screamed as I headed to the entrance, panting heavily.
- As soon as I opened the door, he pushed me aside and walked in, dumping his suitcase on the floor.
- “What took you so long to open up?”
- “I’m sorry Sir, I wasn’t in the living room. Good evening, Mr. Hayes.” I greeted.
- “There’s nothing good about the evening woman, next time don’t keep me waiting outside my house.”
- “Seems like he gets worse by the day. With Mr. Hayes, it’s best to always expect the worse, for my sanity.” I advised myself.
- I had to endure his excesses, I was his maid after all.
- “Can I come in, Mr. Hayes?” I asked, after a knock on his door, with his suitcase in my hand.
- “Come in, Serena,”
- “Goodness gracious!” I wish I could unsee what I saw. How come he asked me to come in when he wasn’t properly dressed? Did he plan to seduce me?”
- For a moment I was carried away by his fine features. His muscular physique completely captivated me, and his short white towel sat finely around his waist.
- “Drop the suitcase, Serena. I need to lock my room.”
- “Oh! Yes Sir,” I finally found my voice. “Your food is ready and will be served before you are done.” A smile spread on my face as I walked out of his room.
- Adrian Hayes was looking hotter than I ever thought, in a towel.
- All the while I worked with him as a maid, I had never seen him half-dressed.
- As I headed to the kitchen to serve his food, several ungodly thoughts went through my head. “What a sexy, rude boss!
- It took about an hour for him to arrive at the dining room. The fragrance of his body spray filled the air, and I couldn't help but enjoy the pleasant scent.
- “Serena,” he called and I left all I was doing in the kitchen to attend to him.
- “Sir, do you need something?”
- He shook his head. “Take a seat, Serena. I need to find out something from you.”
- “What does he want this time?” I sat and waited for him to speak.
- “You went to the hospital to see your father, right?”
- “Yes!” I nodded. “Thank you for the ride,” I added.
- “How was he doing when you saw him?”
- “He is getting better, Mr. Hayes,” I responded, shocked that my rude boss cared to ask after her sick Father.
- “I spoke with the doctor and checked out his latest test results. There’s a little improvement, though he looked much healthier physically.
- “That's good news, Serena,” Adrian smiled. “You can go see him whenever you wish. The old man is your father and would do the same for you. Just inform me so that the driver can take you. My wife should not be seen in cheap cars or taxis.”
- “Thank you so much, Sir, I really appreciate this,” I smiled as I got on my feet. “I would like to see him again in a week.” I thought of making a humble request, asking if he could go with me on my next visit since he seemed to be in a happy mood, but I dismissed the thought almost immediately.
- “That's all right,” he nodded and resumed his meal.
- I felt like there was something else he wanted to ask with the way he looked at me, but I couldn’t guess from his expression, so I thought to also ask him a question.
- “Sir? Can I ask a question?”
- “Go ahead, what is it?”
- “I… I would like to know how much time we have to make babies,” I began. “Before we signed the contract you mentioned that you had barely a year left to get married and have a child to fulfil your company’s…
- “Why the hurry Serena? Should I assume that you can’t wait to bear a child for me so you can divorce me and run off to your miserable lover? Well, I’m not going to be rushed into that, I am not ready for that phase yet,” he said and got on his feet. “I'll let you know when I am,” he added and headed upstairs, I guess to his room.
- “I’m sorry Sir, I didn’t mean to upset you. But I don’t have a lover, I’m just…”
- “Enough Serena, you don’t even know when to stop,” he continued upstairs and I took a deep breath.
- “Bring my food to my room, since you won’t let me eat peacefully on the dinning.”
- “Okay, Sir.”
- I guess he was tired of speaking with me already. And to think that I was already going to commend him for making me smile by showing some form of concern for my dad and permitting me to see him whenever I wanted. He sure has terrible mood swings.
- He didn’t expect that question though.
- But why not? The plan wasn’t to stay married to him indefinitely, besides I needed to start planning my future too.
- Was my question out of place?
- Well, the last time I checked I wasn’t the one who was scared of losing my position at work. From how desperate he sounded barely a week ago, he should be the one eager to plant his seed in me. I just hoped there were no new developments and he wasn’t carrying me along.
