Chapter 47

  • Devon’s words pierced Kiara’s heart. She wanted to tell him that she was not being selfish. She spent the night turning and tossing, cooking up excuses, words to defend herself, but the reality of how true his words were made it impossible to conjure up anything.
  • She stood up from the bed and forced herself into the bathroom. Her reflection stared back at her through the mirror and she looked a mess; her hair was matted and bags had formed underneath her eyes. Her brows scrunched up as she recalled or rather tried to recall a dream she had when she managed to fall asleep for a brief second.
  • “What do you know about Salutis Temple?” She asked Kali as she got into the bathtub and began scrubbing herself. As she expected, Kali said nothing in response. “Are you ever going to be open with me? you are meant to guide me, answer me, protect me, yet again and again, you remain vague. You leave me and come back as you will, you speak when you want. That is not how things are to be, you are mine as I am yours, we are equals and we are to work together.”
