Chapter 28

• I skipped supper and they had it sent to my room. I was grateful. I don’t know how much longer I’d be able to keep the emotions from my face in front of Alex. As it were, he’d kept glancing in my direction and I kept pretending not to notice. I stare out of the window at the fake city. The buildings now lit and what looks like cars passing by each other in the streets. Stopping at stop lights and allowing fake people to cross. I stared out at the movement for a few minutes and realized that it was like a video on a loop. You’d never notice it if you weren’t looking out for as long as I have. The same blue car stops at the same red light. The people cross the street and a red car turns right before the light turns green allowing said blue car to cross.
• Before seeing the loop, it was nice to pretend for a while that I was grown, this was my apartment and I had just come back home from a long day at the office. That my boyfriend and I had a fight and that my boss had just had a very awkward meeting. The loop reminds me of my reality. That everything isn’t what it seems.
• A beautiful lit city view is only a video. A guy who’d led you to believe he was interested in you, shows more affection for your twin and only ever showed you any interest because he couldn't get said twin. A mother whom you thought was in charge, has to answer to a boss. A sister whom you thought was not worth caring for might be in danger. A life you’d made up for yourself, is only pretend.
