  • A day had turned into two and then a week passed just like that, without a word or a glimpse of Riven. I had no way of contacting him and not for the first time, I wondered if he even had a phone to call. Somehow, I doubted it.
  • The only person happy about this situation was Asher. He went about with a sly grin on his face and every time I brought up Riven, he smirked. There was something going on that I didn’t know and if there was something I hated more than this constant ache of longing that I felt for a man who seemed to have walked out of my life, it was not knowing if he was fine or not.
  • The last time I’d seen him, before he abruptly turned his back on me and left, he hadn’t looked so good. I wondered if he was still up to whatever things he usually did that put a permanent metallic scent on him.
