Chapter 29
- I was right. It was not fun at all to hang out with Hazel and her friends but I was determined to get along with Hazel. She was important to my family and had helped fill a void that my absence caused. I felt that I owed her something and much more than that – I saw my past self in her. She was a sweet girl based on her interactions with others and her obvious attempts to be friendly with me but every time she saw me with Asher, she became depressed.
- It was obvious she had a crush on Asher but my poor brother didn’t even know. He treated her like a sister and to her, I must be the enemy. I saw myself in her because I used to be like her with Elijah, crushing on him in silence and hating every woman by his side. I wanted to prove to her that I was harmless but hanging out with her friends made me feel less than gracious.
- “Oh, dear, that’s not your colour,” her best friend who I met earlier, Kenna, said with a chuckle. “It looks horrendous on you.”
