• Emma was gone by the time I woke up. Her scent still lingered faintly in the room, but she was nowhere to be found. Andrea was missing too. I asked Master, Clark, Cynthia—anyone who would listen—if they’d seen her, if something had happened while I was unconscious, but no one had answers.
• “Nothing happened,” Master told me the first time I cornered him. “After the battle with the wolves, we realized they were gone.”
