• For five days, my aunt and I had done everything in our power to save Emma. We used every spell we knew, tried every trick in the book, but she still wouldn’t wake up. Five whole days, and she remained unconscious. Every now and then, she’d stir, almost waking, only to slip right back into unconsciousness like a cruel joke.
• I could feel her slipping away. The fear gnawed at me because time wasn’t on our side anymore.
