• Elvis’s sharp eyes followed Edeline as she left his office, as though he had no intention of letting the sight of her departure slip away. Her silence after he set his impossible condition only intrigued him more. There was something almost satisfying about seeing her drop her stubbornness—even for a moment. For the first time, he felt as if he’d uncovered a weakness in her, the same woman who had infuriated him endlessly the day before.
