- That afternoon, the skies over London grew heavy with rain, the downpour catching everyone off guard. Pedestrians scattered in a rush, umbrellas hastily opening or feet pounding as they dashed for cover. The forecast had promised clear weather, but the storm had arrived nonetheless.
- Edeline was among those running through the streets. She had just stepped off the school bus, still clad in her uniform. At first, she had walked slowly toward home, almost dragging out the time. Seventeen years old, lovely and bright, she always delayed coming back to that house.
