- My breath hitched as his hand, rough and calloused, finally left my arm. It felt like a brand, a mark I couldn't scrub away. He just stood there, staring at me, a weird, triumphant glint in his eyes. Like he'd just hit the jackpot, won some impossible prize. My own hands, meanwhile, were shaking so badly I could barely keep them still.
