• The message arrived just after sunrise, a message sent through the guard sent a jolt of pure excitement through me. Kira and Alvira had agreed to see me. Finally. I nearly ripped Kristina’s bedroom door off its hinges, bursting in like I was being chased by someone.
• Zara was sitting on the edge of the bed, her eyes shadowed, a clear sign she hadn't slept a wink but she stood up the moment she saw me. "Hero, is something going on?" she asked, her voice a low, raspy whisper while she looked behind me.
