• "Zara and I..." I started, my voice trailing off. Alvira had asked a direct question, but the words felt stuck in my throat. I wanted to explain, to tell her everything without making Zara uncomfortable, but it was like trying to untangle a knot I had no right to untangle.
• Before I could find the right words, Zara stepped in. "Hero hasn't been himself," she said softly, her gaze meeting Alvira's. "Not since he learned you both were alive. It's…it's wonderful to finally meet you. And if you'd like more time with him, I'm happy to give you space.”
