• By the time our tour is nearly done, Alina looks radiant, like someone who has finally been given a gift she never thought she’d receive. She points at houses, laughs when children wave at her, and even compliments a group of pack women weaving baskets by the roadside. Watching her, I realize I’ve never truly taken the time to look at her this way.
• She isn’t only the girl who replaced me in Jace’s bed. She’s strong-willed, opinionated, and—most surprising of all—a go-getter. It strikes me that these traits, which could make her admirable, also make her dangerous.
