• No one has come to check on me since Jimmy left. Not even to check on me except the nurse, who slipped in earlier, changed my bandages, checked my wounds, and left almost immediately. They didn’t replenish the sedative, so now the pain is a living, breathing thing inside me. It burns, it throbs, it makes every movement feel like fire under my skin.
