Chapter 299 Reminiscences

  • "I initially believed he was just joking around, and that eventually, the supposed love he felt would diminish, and he would return. However, to my surprise, when he did come back, he informed me that he was getting married to that woman.
  • During that period, my sole concern was my company. I was convinced that anything beneficial to the company's interests was genuinely beneficial. Therefore, I couldn't come to terms with it. I couldn't fathom that my son, whom I had high expectations for, was going to marry a woman who couldn't contribute to his success, all in the name of love. In that moment, I speculated that this woman was only interested in money, which was why she was holding onto my son. I met with her privately, handed her a blank check, and instructed her to fill in any amount she desired, as long as she agreed to leave. In my perspective, my son meant everything to me."
  • Pausing for a moment, Steve Hamilton gazed out the window intently. After a prolonged silence, he continued, "I never anticipated that she would tear up the check right then and there. She asserted that her love was invaluable, and even if I offered her all my assets, she wouldn't forsake her feelings for Henry Hamilton. At that instant, I found it absurd, the notion that there are intangible things money cannot acquire is simply preposterous, it's merely a fallacious argument put forth by those with inflated egos. Yet, to my surprise, Henry Hamilton arrived at the company and confronted me directly upon discovering that I was attempting to bribe her to depart. I compelled him to choose between that woman and me, and he... he didn't hesitate to express his desire to be with her, to marry her, and start a family. I promptly issued an ultimatum, informing him that if he opted to be with her, he should vacate the premises, as I would no longer consider him my son. Subsequently, he swiftly packed his belongings and left, and I received a call from home confirming his departure. Enraged, I destroyed everything in sight, and once the fury subsided, I had all his cards deactivated. I believed that if he couldn't survive on his own, he would eventually return home."
