• After the initial shock wore off, I felt a bitter awareness that Aurora was with that oaf, Kade. My ribs tightened with envy as I watched her sitting across the room with him. They looked cozy, and Kade even had the nerve to touch her hand and laugh.
• Mom continued talking, and I tried to focus on my dinner. We had a ritual of dining together every two weeks, but I now had a strong urge to walk over to Aurora's table and yank her out of there.
