• “No!” I scream as I shift back into my human form, my body trembling from the pain and exhaustion. I try to reach him, to stop him from doing something so final, but it’s too late. Baron’s heartbeat fades into nothing. His silver eyes lose their light, frozen open, staring into the empty sky.
• A strange emptiness opens up inside me, spreading through my chest like a hollow wind.
