• He winks at me before using the last of his strength to push me out of his mind. It happens so suddenly that it feels like a door slams shut right in front of my face. Then everything goes dark. I fall into an empty space, and the next thing I know, I’m gasping for air as I wake up.
• The soft light slipping through the curtains tells me that dawn is near. The sun is probably just about to rise over the city. I’ve barely slept a couple of hours, but the exhaustion doesn’t matter now.
