• Three long days pass before I finally feel completely fed up with everything. During all that time, Dex hasn’t come to see me even once. I can feel him faintly through the bond we share, but his presence feels distant, almost like he’s deliberately keeping himself hidden from me. It’s as if he’s doing everything he can to avoid me. The more I sense it, the heavier the ache grows inside my chest. It’s strange how something that once felt so powerful can crumble so fast.
• Tired of waiting and feeling useless, I sit up and pull the IV lines out of my arms. Brad has been keeping me under close observation, but by now, I feel fine—or at least as fine as I can be under the circumstances.
