• The pain hits me like fire, burning through every part of me the moment I move. My knees give out, and I collapse to the ground, struggling to breathe. Through the blur of my vision, I see the fight still raging, though it’s fading fast. Baron is down too. Blood spills from the same place where my dagger had pierced him.
• “Why?” I see his lips forming the word in the distance. I can’t hear him, but somehow, I feel it—like his voice vibrates inside my chest.
