- As I stepped out of the cab, I felt a deep warmth settle in my chest. Lunch with Nora had been better than I ever imagined. For two women who had spent their entire lives apart, we had way too much in common. Our childhoods had been vastly different—hers filled with privilege, mine with struggle—but somehow, it felt like we had always known each other.
- We talked about everything, from our childhood mischief to our careers. I told her about my time working at the boutique, and she laughed when I described the petty rivalry between me and some of the girls. In return, she shared details about her law firm drama and how she had just secured a new job. Then we got into relationships, and I nearly choked on my drink when she casually mentioned that her ex-husband had been gay the entire time and she had been the last to know.
