Chapter 7

  • I couldn’t sleep that night, as I kept blinking while my eyes were staring at the ceiling. Kelvin on the other hand was seated in the corner of the room, I could see his red eyes glowing in the dark as he was staring at nothing. From the way he sat, I knew he was thinking, building plans in his head about what was all happening. The attack, the severed head, the traitor… It was too much to ignore.
  • "The spy must be someone close," I said. "They knew about the prisoner, the nurse, and me."
  • Kelvin nodded. "And they’ll strike again."
  • A loud howl cut through the silence. We both stood at the same time. Kelvin moved first, grabbing his sword. I followed, my heart racing as we ran towards the noise. The scent of blood hit me first. A body lay in the middle of the training ground—a warrior.
  • The traitor just killed one of Kelvin’s warriors.
  • His eyes were lifeless and looking up at the sky, while his throat was sliced open and blood gushing out. Kelvin knelt beside him slowly, inhaling deeply to get the scent. "Whoever did this… was fast." he murmured with pain in his voice.
  • I swallowed hard. "That means they’re still close." I asked growling under me.
  • Kelvin turned to his guards who were rightly behind him. He stood up from there, staring at the guards "Lock down the Tavern. No one leaves! Except I gave my permission to!”
  • With speed, the guards rushed off while I knelt beside the dead warrior, sniffing the blood, my hands were shaking as I moved to touch the face. I might have been that person if I had disobeyed my instinct to come out, I wasn’t safe here.
  • Kelvin pulled me up, his grip firm. "Come with me." He dragged me toward the dungeons.
  • "Where are we going?" I asked.
  • He didn’t answer.
  • We reached a dark cell. There was a man inside, bruised and trying to reach a chair. His wolf scent was faint.
  • Kelvin stepped inside. "This is the rogue we captured before he escaped."
  • My breath hitched at the sight of the figure, slowly I moved closer then turned back to Kelvin. "You found him?" I asked in a dry voice.
  • Kelvin smirked, then he said, "He never left." I was shocked by his words but I waved it off.
  • Kelvin let the rogue escape on purpose to lure out the traitor, I never knew he was so smart.
  • I stared at him in shock. "You tricked them."
  • Kelvin without replying to me moved closer to the man, with his two fingers he raised his face up and turned to me. "Explain what you told me to her." He said with a smile on his face.
  • The rogue coughed, as blood was dripping from his lips while he made to talk. I shivered first but I ignored it. I needed to hear what he had to say. "The Crimson Moon Pack is moving. They’re sending a Beta to infiltrate the Tavern."
  • I stiffened. "A Beta?"
  • Kelvin’s voice was cold. "Someone with a high rank. Someone we trust."
  • My nerves and chills mixed together run down my spine.. it was clear the traitor wasn’t just any warrior. It was someone important and close.
  • Before I could respond to what he said, I was trying to read through what he said, before I could know the door to the dungeon slammed behind us and the torches went off suddenly. I wanted to find out what the case may be.
  • I turned quickly to find where Kelvin was, but that was when I found out the rogue was already shifting and right before us.
  • The rogue was never a prisoner as we assumed instead he was the real assassin. This was so shocking to me, I was getting it now.
  • His bones cracked as he was completely shifting, then his body twisted into a large, black wolf, while his eyes were glowing a deep, unnatural red as he groaned loudly.
  • "Move away!" Kelvin shouted hard seeing the rogue was coming towards my direction, he pushed me behind him while facing the rogue with his sword out. He was ready, his eyes looking to the rogues' eyes, this war needed to be ended.
  • As the wolf lunged towards us Kelvin blocked the attack from that, I saw his claws extending as he shifted halfway. They groaned so badly with their eyes sparking out. They clashed in a brutal fight, their growls echoing through the dungeon.
  • I backed up, my heart slamming against my ribs. This was a trap. The traitor had planned this. Someone wanted Kelvin dead and I could see the rogue was about doing that.
  • I had to do something, I couldn't stay over there and watch the fight, my mind was checking the thought of watching him die and then the rogue, piercing his pawns on me.
  • I knew Kelvin was strong, but the rogue was ruthless from the sight and how I saw him attack Kelvin. I watched his claws sliced into Kelvin’s side as he pulled away but unluckily for him, it got him. I saw the blood splattered across the stone floor, and everywhere there.
  • "No!" I screamed out heavily not wanting to imagine it in my head, this wasn't happening, you can't lose Kelvin, he had been there for me and now I am watching the useless brutal rogue take him away from me.
  • Kelvin stumbled back, his breathing heavy as he pulled his hand to hold the heavy rush of the blood. I could hear him try murmuring something “run and never look back” Kelvin tried saying. My eyes were filled with tears. The rogue turned to me next, his red eyes locking onto mine. And then—he smiled but I felt I had to defend myself. I can't watch him do whatever felt right for the person who had always saved me.
  • Pulling Kelvin’s sword, the blood sparkle was there, I scooped with my fingers then wiped it on my fa
  • ce and I murmured. “ I didn't take side in the sight of evil”
