Chapter 16

• The burning in my mark became more intense, as it was piercing through my flesh like molten fire. I clenched my teeth tight, holding my wrist as the pain continued. The man in front of me took a step forward toward me. Their form was shifting swiftly.
• "You are not the Last Ghost Wolf, Rachael," the voice said, it was neither man nor female, but an old and familiar voice. "You are something far greater than that. You are the key." The voice dropped. My breath hitched on hearing that "The key to what?" I asked myself, still enduring the pain. The figure raised their hand before me, and the ground beneath us trembled. The stone slabs crumbled, revealing deep, brilliant lines that pulsed like light veins. The earth then broke apart, revealing a gigantic gate carved with markings I could not understand. Power emanated from it, sending thrills down my spine.
• "The Gate of Ancients," the person said. "A link between the living and the original wolves. It was sealed long ago to prevent turmoil, but only someone from within your bloodline can unlock it."
