Chapter 20 Paulo
- I knew this was some kind of trap. When Marianna told me what she heard, I told her it would be best to verify everything before reporting back to Lombardi. Men like De Luca don't go around talking about their plans openly. This might be his house, but I'm sure some deals require a great amount of secrecy in order for them to push through. In this business, there are enemies everywhere. Even walls have ears. The amount of listening devices I've found in the Lombardi mansion over the past year has been unbelievable. That's why I know De Luca wouldn't go around blurting out anything unless he was setting a trap.
- The plan was for me to go to the location Mari heard them talking about and see if there really was a shipment. Chances are it's a batch of drugs or guns. If we get lucky, I would follow them, see where they hide it then text her the location. After that, she would decide whether to tell her father or not. Mari is clever. I especially love how she keeps some things to herself. Unlike Carina, she doesn't go blurting out things to that old sicko. She makes working for her fun. Plus the extra benefits I get, well, you'll never hear me complain.
- When I got here, I could see De Luca's men from afar. They are standing beside the dock with at least fifteen cases beside them. Well, I'll be damned. Apparently, there really was a shipment. Some of them are loading up two trucks and I take my phone out to tell Mari the good news when all of a sudden I hear gunshots. Jerking my head up, I realize someone else must have known about this. Bullets are flying from every direction. De Luca's men take cover but I can see at least three of them down. I can't help because I don't work for them and I didn't bring any extra bullets. I always carry a gun but it's for my own safety. Not for jumping into fights that have nothing to do with me.
