• “I don’t need you to keep me safe. I’m capable of looking after myself. Why do you insist on making me out to be weak and incapable? If you want a damsel, go find yourself one! I’m not it! Stop suffocating me!” Rayne’s voice rang out as she took my hands off her shoulders, and I raised them in surrender, my heart sinking at her words.
• “Okay, I’m sorry. I will back off,” I said, stepping aside, defeated. We then exited the building and headed back to my car. I moved around to open the door for her, but she did it herself. So I walked back to my door, slid into the driver’s seat, and started driving, stepping on it as we hurried to the apartments downtown. I was in dire need of divine intervention.
