Chapter 10 Under Attack

• “The food was great, Mamma, thank you,” I told my mother before asking if I could be excused. She agreed, and I got up, with Aaron and Vin giving me a knowing look. Aaron wasn’t the only one who liked Vin; my mother and aunt liked him too and had invited him over for dinner. All three of us were about to head to the compound together, and I left them at the table and headed upstairs to take a shower and get ready.
• Orm had organized a last-minute hunt after hearing a wolf howling just south of his compound. He called Aaron, and when he told me, my stomach churned for the first time. We’d taken breaks from hunting in the past, some even longer than the one we just had, and I’d always been ready when called back.
