Chapter 2 Darius

  • School was the same as always, loud, crowded, and busy. Annette stood in front of her locker, placing her books inside. She paused as she heard a commotion at the end of the hall.
  • She turned to look, and her heart dropped into her stomach. It was none other than Darius, the soon-to-be Alpha of the Goldenblade pack. Ann knew what trouble was, and the first day her eyes landed on him, she knew he was trouble, big trouble. So, she stayed away from his path. So far, so good; her plan to be invisible around him had been successful.
  • Ann wasn't short, but Darius was tall, standing at 6'4". He hovered over almost all the guys and girls in the school. He was known for many things, but the most prominent were his looks and his way with women. Darius was a gorgeous man. Ann was not one to be impressed by beauty, but she was by Darius—still is. His midnight black hair was always uncombed and all over the place, adding to his ruggedness, with green eyes that swallowed your soul and a jaw so sharp it could cut through diamonds.
  • He wore a short-sleeve blue shirt that showed his perfectly toned muscles, coupled with tattoos peeking out from under the sleeves. Black pants paired with combat boots so thick they looked like they could crush skulls. He exuded confidence and pride so much that she could smell and feel his aura before he walked into a place. That's how powerful he was. Some said he was blessed with a black wolf with red eyes, and everyone knew how strong and fearless black wolves were.
  • Another thing on his list, aside from his fat ego, was his love for women. He had had almost every type of woman, from black to white, Indian to Chinese, Latinas to Arabs, the list went on. He changed girlfriends like babies changed diapers.
  • Ann never understood what made girls throw themselves at him when they knew he was only using them. He was smart, always topping his class, but that was not reason enough to like someone to that extent.
  • With all his unhealthy lifestyle, she wondered how he would be a responsible Alpha and lead a pack when he looked like he couldn't even lead himself to a sensible thought.
  • Back to reality, the commotion was centered around Darius and his new girlfriend, Claire. Apparently, he was breaking up with her, or had already broken up with her, and she was making a scene.
  • "You can't do this to me, Darry! I thought you loved me," Claire questioned, tears rolling down her cheeks and causing her mascara to smear across her face.
  • "Claire, darling, we were casual. You know that; we both knew that. It was fun while it lasted. You need to move on," Darius
  • replied in a nonchalant tone, completely unfazed by the crying girl in front of him.
  • "I... I, you are so pathetic. I don't know what I saw in you," Claire said through gritted teeth.
  • "Don't be dramatic, Claire. Move on. There are plenty of guys who would love to date you, but that guy is not me. You knew that from the start," he responded, a smirk playing across his lips.
  • "Fuck you, Darius!" Claire flipped a middle finger at his face before stomping away.
  • "Already did, darling," his smirk widened as he watched her hurry away, trying to get as far from him as possible.
  • "What do you want to do now, Dar?" Jason, Darius's friend, asked, placing a hand on his shoulder.
  • "A brunette. I'm bored with blondes," Darius responded, his friends laughing at his reply.
  • Ann placed her books in her bag, already irritated by the earlier drama. Watching their antics always gave her headaches, which is why she tried to avoid them as much as possible.
  • As the hallway began to quiet down, she sighed in relief. She lifted her eyes to look around and almost fell to her knees. Darius's bright green eyes were looking into her soul. Ann felt like she was falling into a dark hole. She quickly looked away, shut her locker, and walked to class, even though she still felt his burning gaze behind her. She refused to turn around and kept walking until she was sitting in the back row of her class.
  • Her heart was still beating fast, and she was lightly shaken, that's how much his gaze affected her. She wondered why he had stared at her. Darius had never acknowledged her, let alone looked in her direction. But now that he had, what could it mean?
  • Ann felt her heart twist in fear. She had enough problems on her plate and didn't want an extra one. What happened to her successfully avoiding him? God, she should have walked out of the hallway when she saw him in the first place. Maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't have seen her or stared at her so deeply like that.
  • She lifted her hands to massage her temples as a headache began to form. She let out a sigh and desperately hoped she was overthinking things and that his look meant nothing.
  • "Hey girl, why do you look like you've seen a ghost?" Mia, Ann's friend, called out with a full smile as she sat beside Ann, pulling her from her deep thoughts.
  • "I was just lost in my thoughts, just the usual," Ann said, letting out a nervous laugh, causing Mia to raise her brow at her.
  • "Is everything okay at home?" Mia asked with concern in her voice.
  • "Nothing is ever okay in that house, but today was less sad. Margaret kept her words to a few," Ann responded with a small smile. She could see the pity and guilt in Mia's eyes, but she was quick to dismiss them. Ann hated being anyone's pity story.
  • "Well, I'm here if you need to talk," Mia said softly, giving Ann's hand a reassuring squeeze.
  • "Thanks, Mia. I appreciate it," Ann replied, feeling grateful for her friend's kindness.
