• Nicole stood outside the hospital, her eyes fixed on the entrance as if willing herself to turn around and walk away. But she knew she couldn't do that. Not now, not when her sister and mother were counting on her.
• She took a deep breath, the cool air filling her lungs as she steeled herself for what was to come. She hated her father, hated the way he had hurt her and her family, hated the way he had abandoned them without a second thought.
• But despite all that, Nicole was here. She was here because Ashley and her mother had forgiven her father, had welcomed him back into their lives with open arms. And Nicole didn't want to hurt them, didn't want to ruin their happiness.
