Chapter 168 I’ll Hug You to Sleep

  • Carol had initially reached an arm up to grab onto Arnold’s hand around her throat, but she stopped mid-air before allowing her arm to fall to her side; she then slowly closed her eyes. It feels like my heart has truly gone cold this time.
  • Meanwhile, Arnold felt his heart skipping a beat when he saw his wife shutting her eyes and crying silently. He hastily pulled his hand away from her throat. The moment he released her, she immediately parted her lips to take in huge gulps of air. Right then, Arnold’s bloodshot eyes carried a hint of sorrow and misery as he looked at Carol. His voice was thick with pent-up emotions of the past. “Why do you have to hold on to such matters when she’s already gone? You’ve already been cursing her since she was alive; can’t you forgive her now? What did she do wrong? It was all my fault!” He stood up and slowly shuffled toward the door with his back hunched.
  • Carol could no longer contain her emotions once she heard the door clicking shut behind Arnold. She shoved her face into her blanket and pressed it over her mouth to muffle the sounds she made as she bawled. Sure, Cheryl didn’t do anything wrong. But what about me? What mistake have I made?
