Chapter 3 I Miss You, Uncle Arthur

  • His long brows instantly furrowed, and his thin lips compressed into a straight line as he strode into the living room with his long legs.
  • Startled, Becky looked at the man, only to see him bending down and stretching out to scoop Erin up into his arms. His movements seemed rough but were actually extremely gentle.
  • Looking at the back of the man, who was going upstairs with Erin in his arms, Becky offered, “Let me make some noodles for you, Young Master.”
  • “Okay,” replied the man in a deep voice.
  • Becky watched until the man carried Erin into a room on the second floor before turning to walk to the kitchen.
  • The room was done up cozily in pink and it had a girlish atmosphere.
  • Arthur held Erin in one arm while lifting the pink silk curtain with the other. Then, he gently laid her in the soft bed.
  • Just as he was about to withdraw his arm, the initially asleep young lady suddenly opened her eyes and stared at the stunningly handsome face that appeared before her eyes. Her soft and tender palm caressed the side of his chiseled jaw as she mumbled in a slightly husky voice that sounded unusually soft and sweet, “You’ve been away for a long time, Uncle Arthur. I missed you.”
  • Tenderness flickered briefly in Arthur’s cold, black eyes. Lowering his head slightly, he lightly planted a kiss on the space between Erin’s brows before urging in an attractive and pleasant voice, “Go to sleep.”
  • Erin stared unblinkingly at Arthur for a long time before slowly closing her eyes.
  • Arthur turned around and sat on the edge of Erin’s bed while holding her soft little hands with his large hands. After staring tenderly at her face—which was pink from sleep—with his deep, black eyes for a long time, he whispered, “I missed my Erie too.”
  • Erin probably heard Arthur’s words or had a beautiful dream in her sleep, as her pink lips suddenly curled up into a smile.
  • Arthur raised his long brows slightly, and his lips, which were usually compressed stiffly, curved up in a barely perceptible smile.
  • Knock! Knock!
  • The smile on Arthur’s lips disappeared in the blink of an eye as if the sight just now were merely an illusion.
  • He got up, took the blanket, and tucked Erin in. Then, he turned around and left.
  • Seeing that he came out, Becky, who had been waiting by the door, said reverently, “The noodles are ready, Young Master.”
  • Arthur walked downstairs while asking, “Did anything happen while I was away over the past few days?”
  • Whenever he asked such a question, he was usually referring specifically to Erin.
  • Becky followed behind him. “Miss Erin has been very well-behaved.”
  • Well-behaved? Arthur paused for a moment before looking back to shoot a glance at Becky. “She’s been well-behaved?”
  • The corner of Becky’s mouth twitched. “Yes, she’s been very obedient.”
  • Arthur narrowed his eyes and continued walking downstairs. “Go and get some rest.”
  • “Yes, Young Master,” Becky replied.
  • She watched until Arthur went downstairs before breathing a sigh of relief. Then, she walked to her room downstairs.
  • Erin was a little dumbfounded when she woke up to find herself lying on her bed. After lying on her bed in a daze for two to three minutes, she suddenly jumped out of bed and ran out hastily through the door without putting on her slippers.
  • After reaching the room next door, she didn’t knock on the door. Instead, she turned the doorknob, pushed the door open, and dashed inside. “Uncle Arthur! Oww…”
  • Before she could step into the room completely, she was bounced off a person’s sturdy figure. Feeling dizzy, she was then seized around the waist and hugged to the person’s bosom.
  • Overwhelmed by the refreshing smell of a man who had just taken a bath, Erin took a sniff, then covered her forehead and slowly raised her excessively long eyelashes. Pouting her lips aggrievedly, she looked at the man’s handsome face above her with watery eyes.
  • Arthur expressionlessly flicked the back of Erin’s hand that was covering her forehead. He chided with a snort, “Why are you being so rash early in the morning? You don’t behave like a lady at all.”
  • Erin secretly puckered up her lips, then stood on tiptoe and hugged Arthur around the neck, rubbing her nose against his chin to express her grievances and dissatisfactions.
  • Arthur smiled slightly without her noticing before patting the back of her head gently with his large hand. He said softly, “Alright, it was my fault. I came home late last night.”
  • “Hmph.” Erin let out a snort. “Why didn’t you wake me up when you came back last night?”
  • Arthur glanced at her fair and tender feet on the floor. Holding her soft, slim waist, he gently lifted her, placing her feet on top of his.
  • Erin glanced at her own feet before giving Arthur a shrug. She said innocently, “I forgot.”
  • Shaking his head in resignation, Arthur lowered his eyes and stared at the delicate skin on her face. He said with a straight face, “Go and ask Mrs. Kay whether I tried to wake you up.”
  • Stunned, Erin stared straight at Arthur, looking as confused as a kitten. She asked doubtfully in a low voice, “Did you?”
  • “You slept like a log; I couldn’t wake you up no matter how hard I tried,” Arthur said as if it was true.
  • The corner of Erin’s mouth twitched as she slowly took her arms off Arthur’s neck; she blushed slightly. Then, she reached up and stroked her hair, saying, “Haha, I thought you didn’t wake me up.”
  • Arthur let go of her with a hint of indulgence in his eyes. “Go wash up and have breakfast.”
  • Erin nodded and dashed back into her room.
  • Arthur shook his head slightly as he walked out of his room and went downstairs.
